Carretera Potosi - Bolivia
The “Carretera Tarija – Potosí”, which is part of the Pan-American route between the Argentina and Perú international borders, is a road that connects the main cities in southern Bolivia, crossing through the states of Chuquisaca, Potosí, and Tarija. The main target of this road is to allow traffic through the Andean Cordillera, serving the local population and connecting by land the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
Due to geological characteristics and an intermittent seismic activity with variable intensity, the area has sizeable potential mass movements, most inducing severe slope stabilization problems.
The natural materials of the region present a wide variety of physical characteristics. Therefore, dilatation-contraction processes are common due to the high variation of temperature affecting pavements that require permanent maintenance.
